Cauvin

Our specialist residential house in east Edinburgh for young mothers aged 26 and under and their babies

We #KeepThePromise by maintaining early connection and attachment while planning for a safe and secure future for mums, babies and families

A Nurturing Environment

Cauvin is not a typical residential setting. Our small house in east Edinburgh is the only resource in Scotland providing full wraparound residential care for young mums and babies.

Spacious bedrooms, a homely living room, a wellbeing room, large kitchen, garden and summer-house create a welcoming home for mums, babies and families. We work closely to support families and professionals through a critical stage of development and decision-making via flexible placements such as:

  • long-term living to strengthen the parent-infant relationship (6-10 months)

  • time-focused assessment-based stays (i.e. 12-16 weeks)

  • phased, part-time or staged-placements to support foster placements or kinship arrangements

Our specialist parent-infant house team live and work alongside mum and baby and with family and professionals. Our approach is shaped by years of experience, achieving the best outcomes by:

  • Providing a range of play work, nurture support, sensory sessions and evidence-informed including Solihull Approach and Parents Under Pressure (PUP).

  • Access to community activities and supports.

  • Including and supporting dads/partners.

  • Contributing to Parenting Capacity Assessment work.

  • Providing reports for Children’s Hearings, Child Protection Meetings and other key forums.

  • Being a birthing support/partner

  • Supporting Family Time

Our Transition flat

A mum and baby can also access our Transition Flat as part of a safe and supported next step to independent parenting and permanent tenancy. The Cauvin team work closely with our Community and Transition team to provide help with:

The Change we see

When we work together—professionals, families and our team — real change happens. We see:

  • young parents grow in confidence

  • babies voice being heard

  • families have the opportunity to reflect and plan

  • professionals have time to more fully explore available pathways of care
